Lust Pearls – FAQs

Here is another in our regular ‘FAQ’ series, covering questions we’ve had recently from clients.

Can I use anything to clean my pearls?”

No.  Please speak to us if you have any questions about what materials you should and should not use to clean your pearls.

For example, some acid-based cleaning solutions may cause serious damage.
There are safe and approved methods for cleaning - do please call us!

I’ve been told to drop my pearl necklace into an ultrasonic cleaner. Will that work?”

NO! PLEASE DON’T!

True natural pearls are relatively strong but they could be seriously damaged by ultrasonic waves and the resonance that can arise inside them as a result.

Once again, please call us for advice.

What is a Carat or Karat?”

A “carat” is used to describe the mass of a diamond. Its official abbreviation is ‘ct’ and it is 0.2grams. It was originally a French word and is pronounced something like     “cah-rah” though in English it’s pronounced phonetically. It was defined in the early 20th century and has been in common international use for well over 100 years.
